Zoo FC head coach Herman Iswekha was left satisfied with his side’s 1-1 draw with KCB in a Betking Premier League match staged at the Utalii Grounds on Sunday afternoon.
The Kericho based side, rooted at the bottom of the BPL table went into the game as underdogs against the high-flying Bankers who are second in the log but managed to pick a point after staging a good fight against the title contestants.
Zoo had the best chances in the first half but Collins Neto failed to hit the back of the net twice from prime positions. Five minutes into the second half, the hosts went ahead through Derrick Otanga who fired home after some good work from Reagan Otieno on the left-wing. The visitors however managed to salvage a point through a Castro Likhanga towering header.
In his post-match interview, Iswekha termed the result a ‘win’ for his side. He however believes his side would have picked three points had Neto buried the early opportunities.
“For me, against a good team like KCB, this is like a win. We really played well, and maybe had we taken our chances, things would have been different. Neto had two good opportunities in the opening minutes and maybe if he had utilized them we would have won the game,” he said.
Zoo haven’t lost in their last three matches and the tactician believes that his team is finally finding its footing after a difficult start to the 2020/21 season.
“The team is slowly taking shape and I believe in our next assignments we will be able to get wins, I am confident that we will be out of that bottom position sooner than later,” he added.
Iswekha reserved some praise for young central defender Alex Onchwari who put in a spirited performance to salvage a point for his team.
“Alex did very well today, if you ask me he was our man of the match. He is a young boy but has been performing very well, he can only get better,” he concluded.
Next for Zoo is a match against AFC Leopards on 31st March.
