WHY MATHARE UNITED ARE STILL IN TROIBLE

Despite hiring of Frank Ouna to turn around the fortunes of Mathare United, the slum boys still went down 2-1 to KCB in Wednesday’s Betking Premier League match.

Here we look at five things that came out of the mid-week match.

Mathare United need to do more

The slum boys came into the match rooted at the bottom of the table with their opponents at the other end of the standings. It was the first assignment for new coach Frank Ouna against his former club but it would not be a happy reunion as his side were beaten the tenth time this season which is more than any club in the top flight. They have collected only a point in the last six games and will need to do more to save themselves from relegation.

KCB mean business

On the other end, the away side performed well and are now one point from top spot in the league. They have the joint most wins (10), the fourth best attack and the third best defence. Having gained six points from the last 5 games, the win was a step in the right direction against a side they struggle with bearing in mind KCB had only beaten Mathare twice playing as the away side since 2009.

Unlucky Daniel Otieno

The striker is Mathare’s top scorer with four goals, almost a third of the total his side have scored. Two of his goals have been the go ahead goals while the others have been in games they are losing. Despite the bad statistic of not winning a game he has scored in,his teammates and coach will hope he continues with his good scoring form to help them retain their league status.

Lucky Derrick Otanga

On the other hand,KCB’s Otanga has four goals and although he isn’t their top scorer, his goals have been clutch. He scored the first goal in the win against Wazito,Bandari, Posta and was on hand to score the winning goal and ensure they keep up the pressure at the top.

Tough encounters ahead

KCB face a hectic schedule where in the next six games, they face four teams in the top half. Having started exceptionally and slightly tailed off towards the mid season, these games will be a tough test and could determine where they finish come the end of the season.
