Western teams make the most of domestic cup break

Not a single team from the western region participated the domestic cup competition hence allowing themselves a two week break before the BetKing Premier League returns.

Kakamega Homeboyz, Nzoia Sugar, Vihiga United and Western Stima all sat out the competition, closing instead to put more emphasis on the league. Having not fared so well in the opening ten rounds of the BetKing Premier League, it’s understandable why none of them would pile up more fixtures.

Homeboyz coach Muyoti chose to have his charges rest for the weekend before resuming training on Monday 15th. He says this will help him a lot.

”We took a two day break from training so that we can recharge before acton returns. It’s been a tough opening spell for us but I am happy we are getting back on our feet,” he says.

Homeboyz’s last outing was a 2-0 win over Nairobi City Stars at the Bukhungu Stadium. Nzoia Sugar on the other hand, lost on the road, and Coach Ibrahim Shikanda called for reflection.

”It’s good to chase two cups but I think we want to focus more on the league. our performance has been on an off so it’s crucial for us to establish consistency. I think the break gives us time to adjust a few things,” says Shikanda.

The Sugar millers next play at home, a contest between them and on-song Kenya Commercial Bank FC. Homeboyz travel to Western Stima who have drawn their last two matches.

Vihiga United will play hosts to Kariobangi Sharks at the Mumias Sports Complex.
