Relegation threatened Western Stima take their fight for top flight survival to Thika Stadium when they welcome a safe Posta Rangers in a Football Kenya Federation Premier League match to be played on Sunday afternoon.
Heading into the match, Abdallah Juma’s Stima face Posta on the back of a woeful three match losing streak that has seen them drop to second last position on the league standings – an automatic relegation playoff position.
To compound the team’s troubles, Mathare United who leapfrogged them into 15th place won their third consecutive match in their last three games to push themselves three points clear from the bottom two places, leaving them with no option but to find a way of getting back to winning ways if they are to take the relegation fight down to the wire.
For Stanley Okumbi’s Posta, back to back wins in their last two matches have relieved the pressure off the team as they are assured of a place in the top flight next season.
The team might however just be in chase of a treble of victories, something they have not been able to do in the entire season, as motivation to finish their season on a high.
The first leg between the two sides ended in a 1-1 draw with Stima’s Junior Mukisa cancelling out Francis Nambute’s strike to give both sides a point.
Cumulatively, in the last five meetings, Stima have a superior record as they have not lost any of those encounters, winning four and drawing one.
In the early kick off match, Juma and his Stima side will only be hoping to be able to extend that head to head record for them to have a chance of salvaging their season.
