Wazito FC will for the first time this season miss the services of defender Johnstone Omurwa when they take on Mathare United in a Betking Premier League match on Wednesday afternoon.
Omurwa has accumulated five yellow cards and will thus miss the match against his former club that will be played at the Kasarani Annex.
“Johnstone Omurwa will sit out of Wednesday’s league match against Mathare United through suspension. The central defender picked his fifth booking of the season against Tusker a fortnight ago and will thus serve a mandatory one-match ban. He will however be available for selection over the weekend when we play Zoo FC,” the club said in a statement.
The Harambee Stars defender has played in each and every minute this season outlining his importance for the Francis Kimanzi coached outfit.
“Omurwa has featured in all league matches so far this season and has been rock solid at the back. Although he’s yet to find the back of the net, he has an assist to his name.” continued the statement.
His suspension will give one of the fringe defenders a chance to play. veteran David Otieno, Maurice Ojwang and youngster Roland Ashimoto who is back after a loan spell at Kisumu All Stars are all available for selection.
“In his absence, Coach Francis Kimanzi will turn to David Otieno, Maurice Ojwang, or Roland Ashimoto to partner captain Bernard Ochieng at the heart of our defence,” concluded Wazito.
Wazito will be looking to bounce back from the defeat they suffered two weeks ago in the hands of Tusker FC. A last-minute goal from Jackson Macharia condemned Kimanzi’s charges to a defeat after a five-match winning streak.
The team currently sits fourth in the BPL table with 20 points after 11 rounds of league matches. The match against United kicks off at 3 pm.
