Wazito overcome stubborn Vihiga in Nakuru

Wazito FC had to dig deep to get the better of a resilient Vihiga United when the two sides clashed in a BetKing Premier League (BPL) round 25 fixture staged at the A.S.K grounds in Nakuru on Friday.

Francis Kimanzi’s men won 2-0 with Kevin Kimani and Boniface Omondi getting the goals either side of halftime.

Having dropped points in the previous round against Posta Rangers, Wazito needed to win against Vihiga to get back in the race for a top 5 finish. They now move up three places to 6th on the standings with 34 points.

Relegation

Vihiga on their part remain locked in the relegation zone where they sit second from bottom with 16 points, one adrift of safety.

Hoping to build on the 1-1 draw with Sofapaka in their last fixture, Vihiga held their resolve for much of the opening half and the second before they crumbled late in both stanzas.

In the first-half, they would give away a penalty in the 41st minute after they had done well to repel Wazito’s numerous attacks. It would be more of the same after the restart with Wazito the more adventurous.

Their forays would yield fruit in stoppage time when Omondi poked home from close range to make sure of the season’s double over Vihiga. He had also been on the score sheet in the first-leg tie in which Wazito ranout 3-1 winners.
