Nzoia Sugar FC got the better of visiting Zoo FC in a round 9 Betking Premier League match played from 3pm at the Sudi Stadium- a contest they narrowly bagged at 2-1.
A brace from captain Gabriel Wandera ensured the sugar millers reigned supreme over a lone Collins Neto strike.
Skippering the Ibrahim Shikanda coached side, Gabriel Wandera stood up firm behind an 8th minute 12 yard kick to drive home the opener past youngster Maxwell Mulili who started in goal for the visitors. A one two combination between Daniel Musamali and Phillip Muchuma had seen the visitors handle the ball in the box.
Zoo waited over half an hour for a response. It was Collins Neto, charged with the captain’s armband on the day to restore parity in the 39th minute, himself standing behind a penalty after a Musamali handball in the box.
Before the referee called all proceedings to a break though, Wandera stood behind another penalty kick. This time, Musamali’s cross had been met by Muchuma’s ready right foot but the ball couldn’t find it’s way in- being stopped only by a defender’s hand. The lanky centre-half drove this second penalty in for a 2-1 half time lead.
Erick Otieno, Nzoia’s current leading scorer at three goals, would be introduced ten minutes into the second half in taking up Phillip Muchuma’s place. He who would almost have an immediate impact on the scoreline. His 66th minute attempt from the edge of the box went wide.
Knowing how hard wins have been hard to come by this season, Ibrahim Shikanda locked the game to bag the three set of points for a hard earned home win.
