Last Sunday’s win elates the junior international who is doing his second season at the club having aided them to promotion from the second tier last season.

”It’s a big motivator to score a goal that wins your team the match. I am happy and it shows that we are capable of competing at the top level because our opponents have been here for a while. I’m sure I can score more in future,” Otieno says.

Nzoia though, were not an easy nut to crack.

”We really wanted a win from the match and when we got the lead very early, it was promising. Nzoia were very good came back strong in the match. Their equalizer was well deserved because they really were on top at that time. Before the break, a chance came for us and I fired in from long range, turns out that is what decided the match,” he continues.

The youngster represented Kenya in Arusha in the 2020 CECAFA U20 Championships in which Kenya bowed out to South Sudan in the semi-finals. Though a junior tourney, he insists there are massive lessons he picks from it that will enable him offer more to his team.

”Of course we wanted to win the tournament but luck wasn’t on our side in the semi-final. We however, came out of it with a lot of new lessons learned because our opponents were the best from their countries,” he adds.

Sammy Okoth’s men, placed 11th on the 16-team log, will be away to Tusker, a side that just dispatched defending champions Gor Mahia in the midweek, and before that- had walloped Western Stima 5-2 on the road.
