Gor Mahia coach Manuel Vaz Pinto says his focus is solely on his team and not on the other title challengers as things get crowded at the top of the BetKing Premier League (BPL) log after matchday 20.
Gor secured their sixth win on the trot this past Wednesday when they defeated Mathare United 1-0 and in the process moved up to within five points of top spot. KCB sit top with 39 points, one above second place Tusker with AFC Leopards a further two behind. And with the benefit of having a game in hand on the teams above them, Gor are deep in the mix of another title run.
“We are here to fight,” Pinto said after the Mathare game, “Every game is like a final for us and we are focused till the very end.
“I believe we will be there at the end because if I didn’t believe then I would not have returned when I went back home (to Portugal) when the league was stopped.
“I will not speak about the other teams. My focus is on my players and in the matches we have left,” he added.
Gor are having a resurgence after the league restart and have won 11 straight games in all competitions. This run has seen them make the Shield Cup final where a win will see them maintain their continental appearance run if they fail to do so through the league.
