Ulinzi Stars, Posta Rangers fire blanks

For yet another outing in the BetKing Premier League (BKPL), Ulinzi Stars and Posta Rangers played to a draw, their Saturday 23rd January clash at Utalii Sports Club ending 0-0.

While the match was played at a very high tempo, goal mouth action was always scare and scanty as the team’s defences did perfect with clearances.

For yet another game, Ulinzi Stars opted for attacks through the wins, but lacked the finishing touch as Daniel Waweru and Michael Otieno’s crosses rarely found a white shirt to connect.

More direct

Rangers were more direct, opting to use former Ulinzi forward Ezekiel Okare, but still he could not get past the firm pairing of Alex Masinde and Boniface Andayi.

Ironically, Bernard Ongoma, Ulinzi Stars’ defensive midfielder, would be the man with the best chance after he was fouled 25 yards out. He took the free kick himself, going for a powerful low shot that Rangers keeper Bryne Omondi had to punch before making follow up under pressure from Oscar Wamalwa.

On the other end of the pitch, Okare got better of Boniface Andayi in a rare occurrence but sliced his shot, for James Saruni in the Ulinzi goal to make an easy save.

The game remained fast paced in the second period as well, with both sides creating few clear cut chances still. Dennis Oalo, once an Ulinzi Stars target, had the best chance, going low with Saruni to beat but the keeper did well to block the well taken shot.

Meanwhile, Churchill Muloma had an overhead kick land at the top of the net on the Ulinzi end before Masita Masuta hit wide a good chance in the box.

In what would have been a sucker punch, Okare found himself well placed after a poor back pass from Muloma but Saruni saved the day once again, leaving the box early enough to clear the danger.

The result presented the sixth draw in eight matches for Ulinzi Stars while it was Rangers’ seventh from nine matches. With it Ulinzi drops to 11th with nine points from eight matches while Rangers are ninth with 10 points.
