Ulinzi continued with their resurgence in the Betking Premier League (BPL) edging out Bandari 3-1 at Mbaraki Sports Club, Mombasa.
Bandari have not had a fine run since the season resumed and were recently edged out of the Betway Cup where they were the defending champions.
John Kago shot the soldiers ahead in the seventh minute with a well curved shot and the dockers were in trouble early.
Then William Wardi and Hassan Abdallah combined well at the front but they could not go past Ulinzi’s well manned defence of Brian Birgen and Harun Mwale.
The soldiers were two goals up Ulinzi were two goals up at the 36th minute when Bonface Onyango converted a penalty kick awarded to the soldiers when Bandari’s defender Brian Otieno brought down Masuta Masita.
Ulinzi Stars were two goals up going into the second half. Coming back, the dockers fought hard to reduce the margin. In the 49th minute William Wardi netted from the spot. The penalty was awarded after Kasumba Umaru was brought down inside the Ulinzi danger zone.
Second half substitute Kevin Thairu needed few minutes after coming on to silence Bandari’s technical bench with a third goal in the 52nd minute.
Bandari mounted pressure in the closing minutes but the soldiers stood firm and picked all three points.
