Ulinzi Stars and Gor Mahia played out a barren draw at Thika Stadium in this Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) match to  maintain their unbeaten run on Wednesday.

This was the fourth clean sheet for Ulinzi Stars, the joint most with Gor Mahia and the result saw them climb two places to fourth with eleven points.

The draw saw Gor Mahia back to the top of the league but although it ended their perfect start to the league, they extended their defensive record as they have not conceded in over four hundred and twenty-seven minutes.

It was a slow start for both teams with neither giving the other space and time to construct their play but Gor Mahia had the earliest sniff at goal after nice interplay between Benson Omalla and Jules Ulimwengu but the latter’s cross was intercepted by Ulinzi keeper James Saruni to avert any danger.

The two once again linked up minutes later, with Omalla delivering a perfectly weighted cross but once again, Saruni parried the ball to prevent the lurking Ulimwengu from pouncing on the ball.

Ulinzi Stars then had a rare foray at goal after John Kago did well to beat his markers and set up Hillary Simiyu who fell in the 18-yard box but his desperate pleas for a penalty were waved off by referee Felix Ekai.

Another quick attack almost presented Gor Mahia with the lead after Yusuf Mainge delivered another inviting ball in the area but Philemon Otieno headed the effort narrowly wide.

In the beginning of the second half, Haron Mwala tested Gor Mahia keeper Gad Mathews from range but his effort was comfortably saved by the man who by then had yet to be properly tested.

Ulinzi Stars who had started the half better than they did in the first one had another foray when Clinton Omondi showed quick feet and strength to go past Frank Odhiambo but his cross was intercepted by captain Harun Shakava.

Both teams made their first change at the same time, twenty minutes from full time with Gor Mahia introducing George Odhiambo for Omalla while Ulinzi Stars withdrew Hillary Simiyu for Oscar Wamalwa.

With the clock running down, Gor made another change withdrawing Austin Odhiambo for Peter Oudu as they sought to find a late winner against a stubborn Ulinzi backline but they stood firm to ensure both sides left with a well-earned point.
