Ulimwengu at the double as Gor Mahia whips Bandari at Mbaraki

Jules Ulimwengu grabbed a brace as Gor Mahia whipped Bandari FC 3-1 in a Betking Premier League match played at the Mbaraki Sports Club on Sunday afternoon.

After a cagey opening 30 minutes, the game came into life in the 34th minute when Gor Mahia took the lead through Burundian Jules Ulimwengu. Four minutes later, the hosts drew level through former Gor Mahia defender, Bernard Odhiambo.

The exciting nine minutes ended with Ulimwengu getting his and Gor Mahia’s second. The striker received a delicious pass from Philemon Otieno and he did the needful slotting past Justin Ndikumana on Bandari goal.

The Dockers upped their game after the interval. Ernest Wendo did well to break down Bandari’s attack five minutes after the restart with Abdallah Hassan racing towards goal. Keegan Ndemi and substitute Johanna Mwita both had chances but they failed to beat Boniface Oluoch in Gor Mahia goal.

Against the run of play, substitute Nicholas Kipirui sealed the win in spectacular fashion deep into stoppage time. The striker unleashed a rocket that beat Ndikumana into the back of the net. The win moved Gor to 6th in the table while Bandri are 8th.
