Tusker edged out Gor Mahia at Ruaraka grounds in Thursday’s Betking Premier League (BPL) match.
Tusker dominated the proceedings from start to finish but had to come from behind and are now ahead by four points from their closest rivals.
Gor Mahia were severely outclassed by their opponents and will have to go back to the drawing board if they are to defend their title.
Tusker started the match brightly with Boniface Muchiri getting the earliest chance but his effort was straight to Gad Mathews.
Gor Mahia then went ahead after Tito Okello’s cool finish at the far post from a cool delivery from a Kevin Muguna freekick to score his fifth goal of the season.
Tusker then nearly went ahead after a good one two with Henry Meja and Boniface Muchiri but the latter’s effort went narrowly wide. The home sides then missed a glorious chance to level after Henry Meja failed to direct his effort goalward.
Tusker continued ramping up the pressure after the break and ten minutes after, they got a deserved lead after Boniface Muchiri scored from a direct freekick.
Shortly after, Gad Mathews once again helped his side from going behind after an excellent save. Gor Mahia struggled to sustain their attacks with the ball in their own half for large periods of the game, with keeper Michael Wanjala barely troubled.
Tusker finally got a goal from a corner kick late on after Eugene Asike rose highest to guide the ball in the net to complete the double over their opponents for the first time.
