Tusker FC came from a goal down to beat a determined Nzoia Sugar FC side in a Betking Premier League match staged at the Kasarani Annex on Tuesday afternoon.
After a closely fought first half, Nzoia went ahead in the 47th minute through new signing Hillary Simiyu who fired home from a Dennis Wanjala free-kick delivery. They continued to fight in search of more goals and Wanjala had a chance to add to the tally moments later but his attempt missed the target.
Sensing defeat coach Robert Matano made triple changes in the 53rd minute. Kevin Okoth, Brian Marita and Chrispinus Onyango were taken off for George Odhiambo, Humphrey Mieno and Jackson Macharia.
The subs didn’t pay off immediately and the veteran tactician made two more changes after in the 70th minute. Luke Namanda and Captain Hashim Sempala went off for Faraj Ominde and Eric Zakayo. The two changes added more attacking punch and in the 74th minute the Brewers equalized through Jackson Macharia who fired home after a quick exchange of passes.
Ominde and Zakayo brought the much-needed urgency and in the 83rd minute, the comeback was completed when Henry Meja gave Tusker the winning goal heading home from a Zakayo delivery.
The win stretches Tusker’s lead at the top. The Brewers have amassed a total of 32 points after 13 rounds of league matches. Next for them is a match against Bidco United.
