Tusker bagged their first full set of three points on Saturday 12th when they dispatched Western Stima in 5-2 in a round three BetKing Premier League match played at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu from 3 pm.
Braces from Majak David, Macharia Jackson and a lone thunderbolt from Asike Eugene dominated the hosts who could only take home a brace from goalkeeper Samuel Odhiambo.
The opening 15 minutes was all Tusker with the possession but with very little at the end of it when it mattered. In the 17th minute, however, having mastered enough patience in Stima’s 18 yard box, Macharia Jackson was brought down in the box and Majak David stepped up to drive home for 1-0.
Seven minutes later however, Mukisa Junior was also brought down on the opposite end of the field and goalkeeper Samuel Odhiambo stepped up for his second of the season. He drew the hosts level for 1-1.
A frustrated Tusker then surged forward to regain their lead and this they did but only after Devans Shakil was adjudged to have handled the ball in the box. Again Majak stepped up to fire home for 2-1 in the 34th minute.
More drama was to follow when two minutes after Tusker’s second lead, Villa Oromchan was brought down in the box for another penalty. Samuel Odhiambo this time, needed two kicks to make it 2-2. The first, having gone off target was retaken after Tusker were adjudged to have stormed the 18 yard box before the kick was taken.
The 2016 champions regrouped and through Macharia Jackson, went 4-2 up by the break. Both of Macharia’s goals were assisted by Brian Marita down the right flank.
Knowing they were on the front foot going into the second half, Tusker ensured they extended their lead by three goals when Asike Eugene latched onto a rebound from a corner kick to fire in the visitors’ 5th of the tie.
Coach Robert Matano’s use of all the five available substitution slots was a highlight in the second half. First, a triple change involving Majak David, Macharia Jackson and Marita Brian. These were replaced by Okoth Kevin, Meja Henry and Muchiri Boniface as the brewers sought to pile more misery on the hosts.
Nothing was forthcoming for Paul Ogai’s men and even the introduction of youngsters Rodgers Otieno and Leon Doso all proved futile. The damage had seemingly been done in the first half as Tusker ran out 5-2 winners.
