TUSKER BOUNCE BACK TO WINNING WAYS

Tusker bounced back to winning ways after beating Sofapaka 2-1 in a Football Kenya Federation Premier League match on Saturday at Ruaraka grounds.

A goal in each half by Rodgers Aloro and John Macharia made all the difference for the brewers.

Sofapaka kicked off the match on a good note with an intent to get an early opening. Titus Achesa’s delivery was well controlled by Joe Waithera, the winger beat Eugene Asike off the ball but his effort got punched away for safety

At the quarter-hour mark, Tusker had their first attempt on goal through Henry Meja. The striker had a solo run down the right flank before unleashing a fierce shot goal but Kevin Omondi was quick to tip out for safety

Six minutes later the brewers came close in search of the opener. A hard swerving shot by Brian Marita on the left flank proved dangerous but Michael Bodo reacted on time to head the ball off the line.

Despite Tusker’s early push, Sofapaka took the lead through Lawrence Juma. The midfielder made no mistakes converting from the spot after Joe Waithera was brought down by Brain Marita.

Tusker responded immediately five minutes later through Rodgers Aloro. The defender pounced on a loose cleared ball by the Sofapaka defense hitting a hard one past Kevin Omondi to draw the brewer’s level.

A minute to the half-time break, Tusker had one final push on goal, a quick exchange by Marita and Meja almost bore fruit but custodian Omondi was quick to collect as the two teams went in for the break tied.

On resumption for the final half Tusker came back the strongest, a beautiful interplay by Michael  Madoya and Apolo Otieno caused problems to Sofapaka’s defense, Madoya’s low teasing shot on goal almost went in but Omondi’s touch was timely for the ball to miss the target by a whisker.

On the hour mark, Sofapaka came knocking for the lead through Ambrose Sifuna. The youngster dashed into Tusker’s defense beating Hillary Wandera but his effort went straight into Emery’s arm.

Twenty minutes from time, Tusker the more attacking side finally had their efforts rewarded through substitute John Macharia. The midfielder quickly reacted to a Mieno’s header slotting home past Omondi from an overhead kick.

Six minutes later, Sofapaka came pressing for an equalizer through Brian Magonya, the midfielder beat Aloro Rogers and Humphrey Mieno off the ball but his attempt lacked enough power for an easier pick for Emery Mvuyekure.

Against the run of play, the brewers almost scored the third, Mieno set  George Ogutu through on goal but his hard low shot got paired out for safety by Omondi to bring the last bit of action as Tusker collected the maximum points.
