Nairobi City Stars defender Salim Shittu Abdalla says it takes much more to leave a mark in the BetKing Premier League. The experienced defender previously played in the top league with AFC Leopards before switching and aiding City Stars in their promotion.
He has featured in the team’s opening two matches in the league, partnering Kennedy Onyango at the heart of City Stars’ defence and admits the technical and tactical demands of playing in the top flight call for players to be at their best.
“It is definitely a different experience up here. I think in the second tier it is a bit easier because the demand is a bit lesser. In the premier league, you have to be at your best technically and the coaching is also tactical here,” he said.
With his experience, Shittu definitely hasn’t struggled to adapt. He notes that both games they have played have been tough but is quick to add that it was all expected. The team opened its campaign with a 2-0 win over Nzoia Sugar before falling 1-0 ton KCB on match Day 2.
“Nzoia have been in thre league for some time and they have many new players blended well with experienced players so they were tough. It was the same with KCB, who have one of the best teams in the league so far. However, it is not like we expected any easy games here. We will keep working hard and try to win as many games as possible,” he added.
City Stars will open Match Day 3 action with a game against Bandari FC at the Utalii Grounds on Friday 11th December. The match will be aired on StarTimes.
