Henry Atola Meja came off the bench to score the winning goal as Tusker FC edged out Gor Mahia 2-1 in a rescheduled Betking Premier League (BPL) match played at the Moi International Sports Center Kasarani on Wednesday afternoon.

David Majak opened the scoring in the 13th minute before Burundian striker Jules Ulimwengu equalized for Gor Mahia. Tusker youngster Henry Meja then came off the bench to score the all-important winner for the Brewers.

Tusker started the match strongly and in the 13th minute, they went ahead through their lead striker David Majak. The South Sudanese was picked out by Boniface Muchiri and he did well to nod past Gad Mathews on Gor Mahia’s goal.

Moments later, Gor had a great opportunity to hit back through Tito Okello but his shot cum cross went across goal with no K’Ogalo player on sight to bag the equalizer for the record league champions.

Gor got another great opportunity to level up matters but Andrew Juma’s header at the half-hour mark went over the bar. Captain Kenneth Muguna was denied a minute later by Tusker keeper Emery Mvuyekure as the reigning champions went all out in search of a leveler.

The goal finally arrived in the 35th minute. New signing Jules Ulimwengu got his second in as many games to ensure that the two teams left for the breather with the scores level at the Moi International Sports Center Kasarani.

K’Ogalo started the second stanza strongly. As early as the first minute, Mvuyekure was forced to pull a great save to deny Okello. Moments later the South Sudanese was denied by superb defending from Eugene Asike.

The chances dried up as the clock ticked. Both teams made some attacking changes after the hour mark. Tusker withdrew their scorer David Majak for youngster Henry Atola. Gor Mahia too withdrew their scorer Ulimwengu for Nicholas Kipkirui with both teams keen on getting the winning goal.

Moments after coming on, Tusker subs combined to give the Brewers a second and winning goal in the 79th minute. Luke Namanda won the ball in midfield before squaring it to Meja who beat Mathews on Gor Mahia goal for his first ever premier league goal. A minute later Muchiri missed a glorious chance to extend Tusker’s lead shooting wide with the goal at his mercy.
