Sofapaka bounced back to winning ways with a 1-0 win over KCB in this Betking Premier League (BPL) match at Ruaraka grounds on Saturday.
The win ended a two-game losing streak by Sofapaka while ending the banker’s five match unbeaten run and shaken their hold at the top of the log.
KCB maintained the same line-up that thrashed Bandari and created better chances. Sofapaka made a mistake in the build up early on but KCB’s Henry Onyango unselfishly passed the ball to Reagan Otieno who was offside.
They had another chance to get the lead but Otieno’s freekick did not trouble Kevin Omondi who had no trouble gathering it.
They continued raping up the pressure and Reagan Otieno almost gave his side the lead but his rasping shot was saved by Omondi. Sofapaka by then had looked bereft of ideas but against the run of play, Lawrence Juma at the edge of the box spotted Joseph Ochuka off his line and scored a wonder goal to give his side the lead.
KCB almost restored parity after halftime through Vincent Wasambo but his shot was saved by the alert Omondi. KCB continued dominating proceedings but Sofapaka were well organized and the home side struggled to create clear cut chances by the hour mark.
Wasambo nearly levelled matters with ten minutes to go after a cleared effort found him just outside the box but his effort went over the bar. Sofapaka nearly scored a second in the same manner as the first but this time round, the effort hit the crossbar. The away side weathered the storm of attacks late on
Focus will now turn to the FKF betway cup with Sofapaka playing against Ulinzi as KCB host Transfoc.
