Sofapaka confirm aid for player diagnosed with cancer

Sofapaka FC through president Elly Kalekwa have confirmed that the club alongside sponsors Betika will take up the medical costs of Wisdom Naya who has been diagnosed with cancer.

News of Naya’s diagnosis broke on Monday when several outlets across social media shared his plea for financial help to enable him undergo chemotherapy sessions.

The youngster was diagnosed with Soft Tissue Sarcoma on his left thigh and now needs KES 55,000 for each chemo session.

Necessary support

“I was so touched by Wisdom’s condition and as family, we have resolved to be involved in his treatment. We are going to organize ourselves in the next few days in conjunction with our partners and friends to ensure that Wisdom gets the necessary support on his medical expenses,” Kalekwa is quoted as saying on the club’s official website.

“I want to sincerely thank all those who have done their contributions towards Wisdom’s treatment. It shows love and care, together with their contributions we as a club and our sponsor will chip in to help Naya receive full treatment,” he continued.

The 18-year old midfielder joined Sofapaka after impressing at the 2018 Copa Coca Cola Championships in which Kenya defeated Nigeria on post-match penalties.

Aside from chemotherapy, there are three other standard methods of treatment that patients of Soft Tissue Sarcoma can undergo; Radio Therapy, Targeted Therapy and Surgery.
