SOFAPAKA BOUNCE BACK TO WINNING WAYS

Roy Okal’s second-half strike was all Sofapaka needed as they beat Nzoia Sugar in Wednesday’s Betking Premier League match at Ruaraka grounds. 

Sofapaka kicked off the match on the promising side and almost got the opener five minutes into the match through Lawrence Juma. The midfielder curled in a beautiful free-kick that hit the crossbar with Katasi well beaten 

Five minutes later, Juma was at it again the Harambee Stars midfielder collected Imbusia’s delivery and with his first touch hit a hard one on goal but didn’t trouble Katasi for an easier pick. 

Sofapaka calling yet again on the 20th minute, a quick move on the right flank by Imbuye Sammy to Brian Nyakan the forward deliver a chicky ball to Juma who headed on goal but missed the target by an inch. 


Nzoia grew lively into the match and had their first attempt on goal through Hillary Simiyu.

The forward beat Okal Roy off the ball and with a light touch forward hit a dangerous ball on goal but Kevin Omondi reacted in time to keep the host safe. 


Right at the half-hour mark, Nzoia came close to break the deadlock through Kasambeli Leonard. The winger on quick feet beat Titus Achesa on the left flank before hitting a low hard shot but Omondi Kevin was hock-eyed to punch the ball out for safety. 


Five minutes before the interval,Nzoia once again came calling, a long ball from the midfield by Kevin Juma to Hillary Simiyu who’s low teasing delivery on goal found onrushing Gaetan Masaha, the forward back heal flick attempt proved dangerous but  Omondi pulled a huge save to deny the visitors the opener.


Three minutes upon restart of the second half, Sofapaka finally broke the deadlock through Roy Okal, the midfielder collected Sifuna’s low cross before hitting right at the left top corner of the goal to give the host the lead.


Nzoia Sugar almost responded immediately through Hillary Simiyu. The youngster was set through by Gaetan Masha, he beat his marker Nshimirimana David but his final attempt lacked power for an easier pick for Omondi. 


Twenty minutes from normal time, the millers yet again came close through Ronack Ronald. The defender rose high connecting to Kevin Juma’s long cross but his effort missed the target for a goal kick.


Against the run of play, Kevin Omondi pulled a massive save to keep Sofapaka in the lead. A dangerous shot from the left flank by Kasambeli troubled Omondi but the keeper reacted swiftly to make a huge save for the host to collect maximum points.
