Sharks, Ulinzi open 2021 with barren stalemate at Kasarani

Kariobangi Sharks and Ulinzi Stars played to a 0-0 draw in the two teams’ first match of 2021 staged at the Kasarani Stadium on Saturday 2 January.

The round six encounter saw both teams create numerous chances to seize control of the match but none quite had that killer instinct in a game that was the first of the season to be played at the Kasarani main stadium.

James Mazembe for Sharks was a constant menace down the left wing and even had a shot graze the crossbar in the early stages of an opening stanza that was dominated by the hosts.

Second half

In the second period, the Soldiers finally settled in the game and it was their turn now to pile pressure at their hosts. Substitute Ibrahim Shambi was at the forefront of Ulinzi’s best chances of the half, forcing Brian Bwire in the Sharks goal to showcase his superb reflexes.

The draw sees Sharks fail to claw to within a point of top spot as they remain in 2nd place with 12 points. Ulinzi on their part move up to 6th with five.
