Ulinzi Stars FC came from a goal down to dispatch relegation-threatened Vihiga United 2-1 in a round 29 BetKing Premier League contest staged at the ASK Nakuru Showground.
Ibrahim Shambi scored twoce in the second half to render Stewart Omondi’s opener a mere consolation for the hosts of the day.
Youngster Stewart Omondi, on a good spell with United presently, came close in the 6th minute having been played through by Lawrence Luvanda. James Saruni in goal for Ulinzi foiled this very early attempt but Coach Mike Mururi’s men would come forward still, especially having watched Nzoia dispatch Bandari earlier at the same venue.
On thirty minutes, the hosts struck, with Omondi on the end of the lead.
United led at the break.
The first five minutes of the second half was all United once more, with Mike Isabwa, Luvanda and Omondi proving to be a thorn in Ulinzi’s flesh.
The tide would however change when Ulinzi opted to push more. Bernard Ongoma was introduced into the fold and alongside John Kago, stabilised Benjamin Nyangweso’s midfield.
A poorly miscalculated ball by Vihiga keeper Morgan Ambuka gifted Shambi with the ball at the hour mark. He made not mistake as he drew the soldiers level.
The former Ulinzi Youth team player had rattled Ambuka in goal for United an he knew it. In the 80th minute, Shambi struck again, this time from way outside the box. He had single-handedly won the tie for Ulinzi.
A late red card to Masita Masuta did little to hamper Ulinzi’s chances of winning the match as they took the full share of the spoils.
