Resurgent Ulinzi down stubborn Nzoia in Narok

A solitary Clinton Omondi goal was all Ulinzi Stars needed as they brushed aside Nzoia Sugar 1-0 in a match day 19 BetKing Premier League (BPL) encounter staged at the Narok Stadium on Friday 28 May.

Omondi netted for the second time in succession to help the Soldiers pick up back to back wins for the first time this season and in turn move up a place to 8th on the log with 24 points.

Nzoia on their part are unable to at least get a point like they did when this two sides last met just three matchdays ago in Bungoma and are now left sitting in 14th place with 17 points, five above the relegation places.

First attempt

The first real attempt at goal of the game came in the 15th minute when Ulinzi thought they had taken the lead through Oscar Wamalwa only for his attempt to be cleared off the goalline by a very alert Elvis Ronack who reacted quickest with Humphrey Katasi well beaten.

That sequence was the only meaningful one until Omondi’s goal just 10 minutes after the interval.

The winger, who has been used rather sparingly this season, let fly from distance to give the hosts the lead, one they would not relinquish despite The Millers being sprang into action after the goal.

Looking also to net his second goal in as many games, Nzoia midfielder Hillary Simiyu also had an attempt cleared off the line by Brian Birgen after he had done well to get the ball past James Saruni.

And thus it would end with Ulinzi the victors for only the fifth time this season.
