Tusker are the Football Kenya Federation Premier League 20/21 champions after edging out Bidco United 2-1 at Utalii grounds on Sunday.
The win saw Tusker move to 65 points and will pocket Sh.4million and lift the newly minted trophy.
Goals from Aloro Rodgers and Henry Meja goals in the first half were all the brewers needed to be crowned champions.
Tusker began on high pressing Bidco on their penalty area and almost took the lead. Boniface Muchiri laid through a low pass to Luke Namanda, the midfielder went past Peter Nzuki had a one on one moment with the keeper but failed to chip past Brian Opondo as the keeper reacted to save danger.
Five minutes later tusker came close again through Apollo Otieno, the midfielder connected well to Humphrey Mieno’s delivery but his attempt had too much power going over the bar.
In the quarter-hour mark, Bidco came close to net the opener, Peter Nzuki set Audi Raphael on goal, the midfielder beat Asike Eugene off the ball but his final attempt got punched back to safety.
Eight minutes later Tusker’s search finally bore fruit, Boniface Muchiri dribbled through the midfield into Bidco’s defense but Okumu Collins’s rough challenge saw the brewers awarded a penalty. Ugandan Rodgers Aloro made no mistakes converting from the spot to give Tusker the lead.
At the half-hour mark, Tusker almost doubled their lead, Luke Namanda through ball to Jimy Mbugua, the defender on his first tooth hit a hard one but went over the bar.
Three minutes later, Tusker doubled their lead through Henry Meja. The striker curled the ball past Opondo Brian after being set through by Boniface Muchiri.
Ten minutes later Tusker almost scored a third of the game through Boniface Muchiri, the Harambee Stars midfielder hit a beautiful volley but had too much power going over the bar.
On resumption, Bidco returned to the angrier side, and five minutes after the restart they pulled a goal back in the match. Substitutes David Orem and Stephen Waruru linked up well, the latter then set Orem through on goal and the forward didn’t disappoint slotting past Mvuyekure Ernest.
At the half-hour mark Bidco almost scored the second of the game, Peter Nzuki laid a good cross to Eric Gichimu the midfielder hurriedly took his shot that missed the target by inches.
Ten minutes later Bidco was at it again David Orem was put through by Stephen Waruru, Orem beat Aloro shot a good one but Mvuyekure was alert to keep Tusker in the lead.
Five minutes later Tusker tactician Robert Matano brought on board Erick Zakayo, the striker made a solo run Bidco’s penalty area shot a low one on goal but David Kalama reacted just on time to clear the ball off the line with keeper Opondo Brian well beaten.
Ten minutes from normal time Bidco pushed bodies upfront in search of the equalizer. Erick Gichimu, Stephen Waruru, and Peter Nzuki linked up well, the latter set David Orem through on goal but Eugene Asike’s timely touch rescued the Brewers from conceding the second goal.
Against the run of play, Tusker kept their cool at the back from numerous Bidco attempts to win the match. The win sees Tusker crowned FKF-PL champions.
