Mathare United takes on AFC Leopards as champions Gor Mahia are away to Vihiga United in rescheduled Betking Premier League (BPL) matches on Thursday.
Ahead of the fixture at Utalii grounds, Mathare United new coach Frank Ouna has challenged his charges to go for maximum points after picking a vital 2-2 tie against Nzoia Sugar last Sunday.
Ouna told the club’s website, he has called on his players not to take the foot off the pedal and go all out out for the win against league chasing AFC Leopards.
United will probably get off the relegation zone should they pick all points on offer at Utalii grounds and Ouna is looking forward to doing just that.
“We are in a position where we cannot afford to drop any more points,” he said. “The fact that we are going up against a team fighting on the opposite end to us should not deter us but rather push us towards getting a monumental result that can be the basis of our rise.
“So let’s maintain with the spirit that was on display in Bungoma and work towards the win tomorrow,” he concluded.
Leopards will be looking to bounce back to winning ways after being held by Posta Rangers last weekend and should give their all on Thursday.
Two wins in a row has marked Gor Mahia’s rise on the log and they are favorites to come back to Nairobi with maximum points. With the team at the top of the log by June 30 assured of a place in continental football next season, the Kenyan champions have every motivation to push them.
A home-ground advantage is all Vihiga United have to inspire them to victory.
