Nzoia Sugar held hosts Posta Rangers to a goalless draw in a Betking Premier League (BPL) match in Ruaraka.
Host Posta Rangers began the match on a high tempo in search of an early opener. Gershon Likono was brought down by Nzoia defender Elvis Ronack, Dinken Mwema stepped up to take the resultant freekick, the defender hit a beautiful shot on goal but keeper Humphrey Katasi reacted in time to clear out for safety.
Rangers who were in control of action came calling yet again on the quarter-hour mark through Ezekiel Okara. After a neat set of passes, the lanky forward connected well to Benard Ondiek’s delivery but his attempt missed the target by inches with the keeper well beaten.
Five minutes later Nzoia had their first dangerous opportunity on goal, Titus Kapachang beat Apudo Michael on a loose ball before setting through Gaetan Masha, the midfielder dribbled through past Dinken Mwema and Suleiman Ng’otho but his final ball lacked power for an easier pick for Kevin Opiyo.
Ten minutes from the half-time break, Nzoia had another chance on goal through Gaetan Masha. The midfielder perfectly connected to Kevin Juma’s delivery on the right flank and with his first touch beat, Kevin Ouma on the ball took a hard shot on goal but went straight into Opiyo’s arm.
Rangers almost broke the deadlock with a minute of play before the break, Likono got the better of Elvis Ronack curling in on the far left corner of the goal post but a timely fingertip reaction by Katasi saved the situation for Nzoia seeing the two teams go into the break goalless.
Upon return for the final half, Posta almost got the opener, a quick counterattack involving Ondieki Benard, Elvis Malic,h, and Dennis Oalo.
The latter lifted in a sumptuous delivery to Okare Ezekiel the forward shot on goal but Katasi punched out the danger.
On the hour mark, new entrant Dennis Oalo caused problems for the Nzoia defense on the left flank. The quick-footed forward dribbled into Rangers defense before setting through Peter Nga’nga, Nga’nga hit a low shot but the ball rolled out with Katasi way beaten.
Rangers largely dominant had another goal attempt but failed to materialize. Substitute Jackson Dwang delivered in a dangerous cross to Oalo, the striker chested the ball on goal but defender Elivs Ronack reacted in time to clear the ball off the line.
Ten minutes from normal time, Nzoia almost punished Posta who were surging upfront, Leonard Kasambeli picked out Hillary Simiyu from a nice pass, the youngster beat Apudo Michael on the ball but his final attempt missed the target.
Against the run of playing an end-to-end action from the teams all pushing for the decisive goal of the match. The mailmen had the last bit of action, a final attempt on goal from the left flank by Nambute Francis almost found the back of the net but his teasing long-range effort missed the target by a whisker as the two teams settled for a point apiece
