PL Playoffs: All Stars draw first blood with crucial win in Mumias

The race to claim the last remaining slot for the 2020/21 FKFPL season begun on Saturday 31 October with 10-man Kisumu All Stars defeating Vihiga United 2-1 in the first game of the two sides’ two-legged Playoff encounter played at the Mumias Sports Complex.

Goals in each half from Willis Otenda and Shadrack Otieno handed All Stars a crucial advantage heading into the second-leg to be played in Kisumu on Wednesday 4 with Dennis Wafula grabbing Vihiga’s consolation.

All Stars will however be without Captain Bobby Kwaka for the visit of Vihiga with the defender seeing red late in the game for two bookable offences.

Saturday’s result means Vihiga now need to win by two clear goals in Kisumu to make it back to the Premier League following their 2019 demotion.

Aside from the deficit, history is also not on Sammy Okoth’s side as no team from the second-tier has ever made it to the PL via the playoffs since the qualification method was introduced in 2017.
