Mathare United will for the second time in the space of a month, faceoff against AFC Leopards with the two teams set for duel on Wednesday at the Ruaraka grounds from 3pm.
Leopards won the first encounter of the season played at the same venue on May 27, with Elvis Rupia netting the only goal of the game in the 8th minute. The game was Frank Ouna’s third in charge since his appointment as Mathare head coach and five matches into the job, the former KCB FC tactician is yet to secure his first win.
Ouna was appointed midway through the campaign to try and improve the club’s fortunes and get them out of the relegation conversation.
The Slumboys currently sit bottom of the 18-team BetKing Premier League (BPL) log and have done so for a majority of the season.
Lying seven points adrift of safety and in desperate need of a win, Mathare can take hope from the fact that in five matches against AFC Leopards as a Coach, Ouna has won three.
The 45 year old, won both of his matches against Ingwe as head coach of KCB in 2019 and led league debutants Wazito to one victory over Leopards back in 2018.
A win for either team will have significant impact on opposite ends of the log. Leopards are in the hunt for a first league crown since 1998 and a win tomorrow will lift Patrick Aussems’ charges into 2nd place on the standings and within two points of top spot.
Leopards should be top already but a poor run of form has seen them drop points in their previous two games with their last win in the league being the one over Mathare.
