Kakamega Homeboyz FC made it two wins in two after dispatching Sofapaka 1-0 in a BetKing Premier League match played at the Bukhungu Stadium from 3 pm.
Nicholas Muyoti’s men, coming from a victory on the road two weeks ago, struck very early through diminutive Ghanaian import Alex Stephen Opoku who beat Sofa keeper Kevin Omondi at the far-post after some deft footwork left captain Michael Kibwage dazzled.
The opening quarter of the hour was all Homeboyz, with Muyot’s charges stretching Ken Odhiambo’s men on the flanks through Chris Masinza and Mudavadi Moses. In the 7th minute, Mudavadi would find Opoku whose first touch left Kibwage clean before tucking in the ball at the far-post for 1-0.
Sofapaka would have to throw in Alex Imbusia for Nixon Omondi on 21 minutes as their flanks failed to function to perfection. On the other end, Homeboyz pressed more, and got Nshimirimana David booked for a professional foul on Mudavadi. Titus Achesa would be next in the book as the visitors went into the break trailing- and with two cautions.
Coach Muyoti had adjsuted his starting team to accommodate Hamisi Manjenga after Masinza Chris suffered a minor cut. Upon resumption, he would rest Allan Wanga in favour of new signing Oromcan Villa.
Sofapaka knocked on the host doors for a better part of the second half, even throwing in Kepha Aswani and King’atua David for Sebastine Sunday and Amissi, but Homeboyz, who had also tweaked to a 4-5-1 formation, made life impossible in the middle of the park.
Stephen Wakhanya and Shami Kibwana’s introduction midway through the second half packed Homeboyz’s midfield but all Sofa could take home was a close 94th minute effort by International Lawrence Juma.
Homeboyz stood tall at the back to protect their lead for a 1-0 win that sends them above the day’s opponents.
