Kakamega Homeboyz FC will only be resting for one week then resume preparations ahead of the 2020/21 FKF Premier League season, the club has confirmed.
Homeboyz, who ended the just concluded campaign with a gallant 3-2 win over AFC Leopards in Thika over the weekend, had a topsy turvy season that had in it fantastic spells as well as woeful ones. Coached by two big names in the Kenyan coaching scene in the way of Nicholas Muyoti and Bernard Mwalala, the Kakamega based side has also began recruiting.
”We are only breaking for one week then begin preps for next season after that. It is important that the players get some rest before we can play for a fresh season,” says the Coach Muyoti.
Shami Kibwana, the club’s top scorer in the just concluded season with ten goals is rumoured to be on his way out of the team to join champions Tusker FC, and with the Homeboyz forward line having impressed throughout the season, a lot more other names have definitely elicited interest from rival clubs. David Okoth, who earned his maiden national team call-up this season, finished on seven goals. Homeboyz are however not worried.
”I want to congratulate the entire team for a great season. We didn’t finish where we thought we would but the season also had its fair share of challenges as regards the covid-19 pandemic. We are on the lookout to add more quality in the team because we spotted some great talent along the way,” he adds.
Key on Homeboyz’s radar is Western Stima full-back Clinton Bulimo, Gor Mahia defender Kelvin Wesonga, Tusker left-back Hillary Wandera and Vihiga United forwards Stewart Omondi and Lawrence Luvanda.
The club finished 6th on the FKF PL log despite losing four of its final five matches of the season.
