Old boy Otanga on target as KCB whips Wazito in Kasarani

Derrick Otanga returned to haunt his former employers as he scored the lone goal in KCB’s 1-0 win over Wazito FC in a Betking Premier League match played at the Moi International Sports Center Kasarani on Thursday afternoon.

After a balanced, goalless first half, the former Sony Sugar and Wazito FC man broke the deadlock four minutes into the second half with a great finish from close range. KCB defended the narrow advantage to pick maximum points in the match.

The start of the game was rather balanced with both teams striving to take control of the clash. The Bankers were however dealt a major blow just after the quarter-hour mark when Dennis Odhiambo was forced off with an injury, Reagan Otieno was introduced in his place.

The first half proved to be one with very few goal attempts. Substitute Reagan Otieno came close for KCB while Michael Owino and Kevin Kimani had Wazito’s best chances. The first stanza ended goallessly.

Four minutes after the restart, KCB went ahead through a former Wazito man Derrick Otanga who fired home from close range. Fidel Origa came close to drawing his side level moments later but Joseph Okoth on KCB goal stood tall to deny the midfielder.

Wazito gaffer Francis Kimanzi made an attacking change just before the hour mark taking off Boniface Omondi for a more direct Vincent Oburu as Wazito went all out in search of a leveler.  The visitors continued to push for leveler but they were kept at bay on several occasions by the solid Bankers.

Both sides created more goal-scoring chances but they failed to make use of them and in the end, the Bankers picked a narrow in. They have now won their opening five matches of the season and sit at the helm of the Beking Premier League with 15 points. Wazito on the other hand are 8th with five points.
