The 2009 league champions Sofapaka have appointed coach Ken Odhiambo as the team’s new manager following the departure of club legend John Baraza in December. Right upon his confirmation at the club, the coach declared the target is to win the 2020/21 BetKing Premier League title.
Odhiambo’s appointment was made public New Year’s Day, with the coach ditching Mombasa based Bandari FC.
The terms of the coach’s contract have not been specified in the club release confirming his appointment and Odhiambo’s immediate task will be to turn fortunes at the team after three losses in the opening four matches.
As he settles in the new job, Odhiambo has stated his readiness for the job, exuding confidence that he can help the team achieve its set objectives. “I’m very delighted to join Sofapaka Club. This a big club and the ambitions are so clear, when the president talked to me I felt a good opportunity to join the club and help achieve her targets,” he is quoted on the club site.
The coach finds a big pool of talent at the club, with the former league champs having been one of the busiest in the off season transfer window and he will be looking to tap into their abilities as he sets the club’s targets.
The main ambition for the team is to win the league title, and that, Odhiambo says is a realistic target.
“I believe they capable of achieving a lot.
“When the president reached out to me, his desires were so clear for the club and that is winning the title. This what made it easier for me to decide on joining the club,” he added.
Odhiambo’s first assignment will be a game against Tusker on Sunday 3 January at Kasarani. He had already faced Tusker at his former work station and the two sides drew 0-0.
