William Sammy Odero was the toast for Coach Sammy Omollo’s Posta Rangers with a decisive goal at the Mumias Sports Complex when Rangers visited Vihiga United.
After a bland barren opening half, Rangers, angling for their first win of the season, stunned the hosts courtesy of Odero with 20 minutes of play remaining.
United maintained their usual back-line, this time captained by Johnson Muyesu whereas the midfield has Nthatha Wycliffe and Mark Okolla providing a shield.
The first half would see little to do on both ends of the field as Okolla and Nthatha did battle with Rangers’ Jackson Dwang and William Odero.
25 minutes of play had gone by when Odero drove home the winner much to a startled United defense. Having scored Rangers’ first goal for the season in match day 2, the box to box enforcer was to be the one to seal the fate of the clash as what would follow next were just suspensions.
First out was Nigerian import Junior Adeyefa- red carded for a high boot on Rangers skipper Joseph Mbugi in the 81st minute. It would be United’s fourth red card of the season.
Charles Odette, in the closing stages of the game- and perhaps in a bid to keep the scores as they were- got his second booking of the game in stoppage time, but had time to hear the final whistle as Rangers won 1-0.
