Bidco United and Nzoia Sugar played out a 1-1 draw at Thika Stadium in Saturday’s Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) match.
The game pitted two teams who are yet to win a game this season, with Bidco now drawing three and losing two while Nzoia Sugar got their second point of the season in a match where they nearly snatched all the three points.
Bidco threatened first after Brian Nyakan had the earliest chance but his shot went narrowly wide the keeper well beaten.
Just like in their previous game, there was some miscommunication in the Bidco backline involving keeper Brian Opondo and defender Anthony Simasi but the ball was quickly cleared before a Nzoia Sugar attacker pounced on the loose ball.
Nzoia Sugar finally went ahead at the quarter hour mark after a lovely pass from Joseph Mwangi found Kevin Wafula who finished well past the outstretched Brian Opondo.
Bidco were then jolted to action and would have equalized after a well worked attack found Nelson Chieta but his effort was cleared off the line by Nzoia defender Ian Karani.
Nzoia Sugar were getting joy down their left side through winger Felicien Okanda who by then was tormenting right back David Kalama and he nearly got an assist after setting up Kevin Juma whose effort went inches wide.
Bidco United were the first to make a change at the break, introducing Zacharia Gathu and Alex Juma for Henry Omollo and Collins Odhiambo. The changes nearly bore fruit immediately through ‘Keke’ Juma but his effort sailed over the bar.
As the clock approached the hour mark, a rejuvenated Bidco side nearly got the equalizer after a poor clearance fell kindly to Gathu but his effort hit the crossbar.
Nzoia then introduced Leonard Kasembeli for Titus Kapchanga and the substitute almost doubled his sides lead with his first touch but his effort was blocked by Anthony Simasi.
There was still time for changes with Bidco introducing Peter Anyona and Lambert Otieno for Brian Nyakan and Nelson Chieta while Nzoia Sugar withdrew both their goal scorer and assister Kevin Wafula and Joseph Mwangi who made way for Bonface Kweyu and Collins Wakhungu.
It did not take long for Bidco to go level with Jacob Onyango restoring parity for his side. Brian Opondo then helped keep his side in the game after producing two magnificent saves in succession.
As the game neared its conclusion, Nzoia Sugar continued knocking at the Bidco goal without any success as the home side rode out the pressure to earn a point.
