Nzoia Sugar FC held hosts Kakamega Homeboyz to a barren draw in a round 5 BetKing Premier League match played at the Bukhungu Stadium from 3pm.
Nzoia, seeking its first win of the season, fiercely engaged Homeboyz who are yet to win at home and after ninety minutes, there was nothing to separate the two.
The opening exchanges saw Homeboyz try to penetrate through the flanks but only a 2nd minute Mudavadi cross found its way into the 18 yard box. He would earn the match’s first caution after a foul on Karani Ian in the 11th minute.
Christopher Masinza could have given Nicholas Muyoti’s men the lead in the 22nd minute had he angled his header a few inches low. The ball veered over the crossbar. Next up was David Okoth who’s goal-bound shot was parried back into play by Humphrey Katasi in goal for the visitors.
Nzoia were happy with the scores barren at half time.
The second half began with Nzoia pulling off Erick Otieno in favor of Phillip Muchuma for more firepower upfront. Nothing would come in the way of clear cut chances for Nzoia however, and it was Okoth again in the 59th minute with another thunderbolt but this too was equaled by Katasi.
Homeboyz threw in Robert Arrot and Stephen Wakhanya to take up the places of Etyang Stephen and Eston Esiye in the 65th minute. In the 74th minute however, it was captain of the day Moses Mudavadi who trailed Gabriel Wandera in the Nzoia box and dispossessed him. With only Katasi to beat, Mudavadi could not find the target.
Such was the summary of the tie, Homeboyz coming close but only too cose, no goal came as both teams settled for a point from the Saturday tie.
