Nzoia Sugar FC finally had their first win since the resumption of the BetKing Premier League, a late 1-0 dispatching of Bidco United at the ASK Nakuru Showground on Thursday 8th. Hillary Simiyu, proved the difference, scoring his fifth goal of the season since signing from Bungoma Superstars in the midseason.
Simiyu started, having been rested against KCB the last time out and was a thorn in the flesh of skipper Francis Oduor and Simasi Anthony partnering in central defense for Bidco United.
On the other end of the field, Humphrey Katasi, fresh from trying out with the Kenya U23’s kept this composure in front of Stephen Waruru and knew how important keeping the sheets clean today would mean for the sugar millers.
At the half hour, no one had threatened menacingly and the scores stood at 0-0.
It would go barren at half time.
Having contained Kakamega Homeboyz in their last league encounter, Anthony Akhulia perhaps wanted a win against Nzoia here, a side winless in seven, and threw in Steven Okiro to the fold as Nelson Chieta went to the bench. It would, however, be the hosts of the day with the opener.
On 67 minutes, Congolese prodigy Gaetan Masha let loose Hilary Simiyu just inside the box and the striker made no mistakes, beating Edwin Mukolwe for a 1-0 lead. They would have to hold not this.
With ten minutes to go, the visitors threw in three new pairs of legs; Lambert Oyuga, Eric Gichimu and former Nzoia man Awitta Batts all thrust into the game as Bidco looked for a way around the tie.
Things would go from bad to worse for Bidco as new man Okiro was written down as a first time offender when he hacked down youngster Daniel Musamali in the 81st minute. Bidco had to be careful.
The hosts were not dishing out any free points this afternoon and held to win clinch the contest through the Simiyu difference.
