New Gor Mahia head coach Mark Harrison got off to the perfect start during his reign at the record Kenyan champions as he brought a staggering seven match winless run to an end with a 1-0 victory over Kakamega Homeboyz in a BetKing Premier League match played at Thika Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

In the closely contested tie, the defending champions only needed to hold onto a Sidney Wahongo first half strike in order to get the job done, complete the double over Homeboyz, end the seven match winless run and grab all the three points in the match.

Homeboyz will have themselves to blame as they missed two penalty kicks awarded to them in the match. Just in the fifth minute, Allan Wanga missed a spotkick after Gor keeper Samuel Njau made a rash tackle on Moses Mudavadi in the area, leaving the referee with no other option but to point to the spot.

In the 25th minute, that gafe came to haunt the Nicholas Muyoti coached side as Sydney curled in a brilliant free kick past Godfrey Oputi in the Homeboyz goal from the edge of the box as he gave his side the opening goal of the game.

Seven minutes later, Francis Omondi would miss another spot kick awarded to Homeboyz as Njau dived on the right side to save a second penalty and keep Gor lead’s intact.

There would not be any decisive moment that would alter the game’s scoreline as Gor held on for three precious points to end their wretched run in the league.
