Kawangware based side Nairobi City Stars have announced the signing of Lennox Ogutu from fellow Football Kenya Federation Premier League rivals Mathare United on a three year deal.
The 24 year old defender joins Simba wa Nairobi after spending the last six seasons with Mathare where he featured on a regular in the top flight league.
Speaking during his unveiling, the defender who will don jersey 27 at the Nicholas Muyoti led team expressed his delight at joining the side while harbouring hopes of leading them to glory in the new season.
“It’s a new challenge being in a new home and I am looking forward to having a good season and helping the team achieve something,” the defender is quoted on the club’s website.
After completing the move, Ogutu will have to battle it out against Salim ‘Shitu’ Abdalla, Kenedy ‘Vidic’ Onyango, Wycliffe ‘Wiked’ Otieno as well as utility man Edwin Malebo Buliba for a place in his preferred central position.
Team coordinator Samson Otieno lauded the defender’s signing adding that it would be a nice headache to have for the new coach.
“Lennox adds the coach more selection options for the coach as well as solidifying the backline. Other than his physicality and ball handling, Lennox is also well known for attending to dead balls which is an extra that he brings to the team. We welcome him on board,” he said.
In confirming the player’s signature on Tuesday afternoon, the 24 year old became City Stars’ third signing in the currently open transfer window after the acquisitions of Michael Madoya and left back Dennis Wanjala who joined from Tusker and Nzoia Sugar respectively
