Mejja the difference as Tusker record routine win in Bukhungu

Kakamega Homeboyz will have to rue their missed chances after going down by a solitary goal to Tusker FC in round 7 of the BetKing Premier League.

After a barren first half, one dominated by the hosts Homeboyz, Tusker would have to thank Henry Mejja for the winner.

Homeboyz were the stronger team in the opening exchanges and it took only three minutes for Sylvester Owino to rise above everyone else and head over the bar a Mudavadi Moses cross. Four minutes later, Okoth David could only find the side-netting with his shot from the edge of the box.

Mudavadi was next, in the tenth minute with an open goal for a tap in but this too went wide.

By the half time break, Homeboyz keeper David Juma had not had any real work to do unlike his opposite number Robert Mboya.

The restart had Shami Mwinyi, five minutes later- slicing through the Tusker unscathed only to fire right into Mboya in goal. Another close shave for Tusker.

Fifteen minutes of the second half had been played when Coach Nicholas Muyoti threw in Stephen Etyang for Shami Mwinyi. Matano, in the same moment, responded by three- Kelvin Okoth, George Odhiambo and Humphrey Mieno all came in. Apollo Otieno, Muchiri Boniface and Jackson Macharia all paved way.

Within a minute of the change, Mejja would find himself unmarked in the Homeboyz 18 yard area and coolly slot in the winner. This came from being teed up by Luke Namanda.

The remainder of the tie had Tusker thwarting any potential build up by the hosts- a strategy that worked well to gift them the three points at stake in Bukhungu this afternoon.
