Mathare United were held to a barren draw by Vihiga United in Sunday’s Betking Premier League (BPL) match at Ruaraka grounds.
The result leaves both sides rooted at the basement of the standings. The slum boys are placed 17th with just ten points while their opponents are in 16th places after having collected 12 points.
Coming into the match, Mathare United were determined to get something out of it. Tyson Otieno’s free kick in the 19th minute should have counted but it flew over the bar.
The visitors had to wait until the 39th minute before making any attempt. Mathare goalkeeper Job Ochieng denied Lawrence Luvanda. Antony Otieno was then cautioned for a bad tackle on Michael Odongo.
Determined to get an advantage the visitors rested Lesley Owino and Mike Isabwa and brought on Michael Odongo and Eric Opiyo.
Mather United’s second half substitute Daniel Otieno came close a few minutes after the hour mark but his effort went wide. Patrick Okulo was wasteful for Vihiga two minutes later as the match witnessed plenty of action towards the end.
