Mathare get the better of Zoo to claim first win

Mathare United claimed their first win of the 2020/21 BetKing Premier League (BPL) season thanks to a 2-0 win over Zoo FC in a rescheduled tie played at the Kasarani Stadium on Monday 18 January.

Early goals from Daniel Otieno and John Mwangi handed Salim Ali’s charges the win that lifts them off of bottom place and over Zoo who now find themselves trailing the rest of the pack.

Quick start

In the last two games, Mathare have conceded early to eventually end up losing but on Monday, it was the Slumboys who were quick off the blocks and took the lead in the 7th minute thanks to Otieno’s low cut finish after being found in space by the lively Mwangi.

Four minutes later, Mwangi would double Mathare’s lead as he pounced on his initial shot that had been parried back to him by Vincent Misikhu.

And with that, the points were sealed as a more solid defensive showing kept Zoo at bay.
