James Kinyanjui struck the only goal of the game as Mathare United secured a slim 1-0 win over Nzoia Sugar in a BetKing Premier League (BPL) matchday 11 encounter played at the Kasarani Stadium Annex on Monday 8 February.
The winger headed home from close range a Tyson Otieno cross in the 55th minute to secure the much needed win for the Slumboys that hugely boosts them in their fight to get out of the relegation zone.
Mathare have endured a difficult start to the season and now currently sit third from bottom with eight points from as many matches.
Nzoia too have had a slow start but have fared much better than Mathare and now sit in 12th place with 11 points.
Apart from the league standings implications, Monday’s win also continues The Slumboys’ dominance in this fixture. In now eight fixtures since The Millers’ promotion to the top tier in 2017, Mathare have managed six wins with Nzoia still in search of their first win.
