Kevin Kimani was the hero of the match as he scored Wazito’s lone goal in the 1-0 win over AFC Leopards in a Betking Premier League match played on Saturday afternoon at Utalii Grounds.
The midfielder scored the all-important goal for Wazito in the 20th minute after he was set up by Boniface Omondi. Wazito protected the lead to pick maximum points.
Wazito started the match strongly and created three good chances inside the first ten minutes. Whyvonne Isuza’s header narrowly missed the target while Dennis Ng’ang’a’s free-kick was blocked by Leopards defenders. The best chance came in the 10th minute when Musa Masika failed to beat Benjamin Ochan in a one vs one situation.
The visitor’s early pressure paid off in the 20th minute when they went ahead through Kevin Kimani. Boniface Omondi on the right squared the ball to Kimani who fired home from close range for his third goal of the season.
Leopards barely threatened Wazito and resorted to sitting back deeply. Their efforts from the break didn’t yield much. Ingwe made a change before the break taking off an off-color Saad Musa for Marvin Nabwire.
Wazito had two great chances to extend their lead inside the first five minutes after the interval. Kimani was denied by Ochan while Ng’ang’a’s flick hit the upright. Leopards captain Robinson Kamura tested Wazito keeper Peter Odhiambo With a dinking free-kick moments later but he was equal to the task.
Leopards showed massive improvement as the clock ticked. They pressed in search of a goal with Elvis Rupia, Marvin Nabwire, and Hansel Ochieng coming close. In the end, Wazito picked maximum points and registered two consecutive wins in the league for the first time ever.
