AFC Leopards interim coach Anthony Kimani says his side must not get carried away by their good start in the Betking Premier League this season.
Two matches into the new season, Leopards have managed to pick maximum points and this is their best start to a campaign in many years.
Pundits have suggested that Kimani’s side will contest for the league title this year, Ingwe last bagged a league title 222 years ago. Kimani has however downplayed the hype saying it is too late to label them title contestants.
“For us, it is a game at a time. We want to ensure that we prepare well for our next game, for me and the team, it’s a game at a time. We have to continue giving our best in each and every game. If we keep on getting good results then it will increase our chances of winning the league, but right now we are not thinking about the league title because the season has just started,” he said.
Reflecting on his side’s last league assignment against Bidco United, the former Kenyan international admitted that the match was a tough one despite picking a 2-0 win. He said United boast of a wealth of experience having roped experienced players during the off-season window.
“The game was tough. Many expected that maybe the match would be easy but what they don’t know is that Bidco is a very good side with very experienced players and they really caused us many problems but fortunately we got all the points,” he stated.
Next for Kimani and his charges is a tough test against Sofapaka scheduled for Saturday afternoon at the Moi International Sports Center Kasarani.
