Kimani at the double as Wazito Whips Simba wa Nairobi

Wazito recovered from their pre-Christmas defeat to KCB with a 2-1 win over Nairobi City Stars in a Betking Premier League match stated at Utalii Grounds on Sunday afternoon.

Wazito went ahead in the 16th minute through Kevin Kimani curled from close range. He scored his second in the 42nd minute from the penalty spot after Boniface Omondi was fouled inside the penalty area. Peter Opiyo scored the consolation goal for City Stars in the 83rd minute from the penalty spot.

Wazito started the match strongly and in the 16th minute they went ahead through Kevin Kimani who beat Steven Njuge with a curled effort. Moments later Michael Owino missed a chance to make it 2-0 when he was set up by Boniface Omondi only for his attempt to be blocked by Stars defenders.


At the other end, Oliver Maloba missed a chance to draw the visitors’ level in the 26th minute when he shot wide from close range. Wazito had another chance to extend their lead in the 34th minute but his attempt at near post was parried our by Steve Njunge for a corner kick.

City Stars captain Anthony Kimani was denied by the upright in the 37th minute with Fredrick Odhiambo in goal well beaten. Wazito won a penalty three minutes before the break when Boniface Omondi was brought down inside the area, Kevin Kimani stepped forward to get his second of the game. Wazito took a 2-0 lead to the break.

The start of the second half was more or less balanced. Wazito continued to attack in search of more goals while the Kawangware based side pressed looking to get a goal back. Anthony Kimani and Aziz Okaka came close for the visitors while Whyvonne Isuza and Kevin Kimani had Wazito’s best chances.

City Stars halved the deficit in the 83rd minute through Peter Opiyo who converted from the spot. Wazito however managed to see off their late pressure to pick maximum points.
