KCB STUMBLE IN TITLE CHASE AT THIKA STADIUM

KCB’s hopes of winning the Football Kenya Federation Premier League title stumbled after they failed to beat AFC Leopards at Thika Stadium and instead drew 1-1 on Tuesday.

It could be seen on KCB’s players faces as soon as the final whistle to end the game was blown as they will need to score seven unanswered goals in their final match against Nairobi City Stars and hope that Bidco United beat Tusker if they are to win the league.

KCB got off to a bad start since barely a minute into the game, Victor Ochami was lucky not to be given his matching orders after a dangerous foul and he was only given a yellow card.

Despite that, they threatened first after a mistake in Leopards’ build up at the edge of their box presented Victor Omondi with a chance and he unleashed a stinging shot but Benjamin Ochan was equal it.

Austin Odhiambo then got a chance after a quick break but his effort went agonizingly wide in a place that looked easier to hit the target. KCB then continued dictating play but lacked conviction in the final third to cause any real harm.

Their dominance then bore fruits and they scored after Vincent Wasambo’s miskick shot left Samuel Mwangi with a glorious chance and he slotted the ball home to give his side the lead, just like he did in the first leg between both sides.

AFC Leopards were not resting on their laurels and nearly equalized but Austin Odhiambo shuffled his feet and the ball was quickly cleared before he stroked the ball.

With halftime approaching, Leopards were awarded a corner and Collins Shivachi rose highest to head the Caleb Olilo cross but his effort hit the crossbar before goalkeeper Joseph Ochuka comfortably saved the follow up.

Both sides had a quiet start to the second half but AFC leopards seemed to have more urgency in getting a goal.

With time running out, Elvis Rupia produced a moment of magic after a good through ball by Peter Thiongo found him and he hit the ball on the half volley to restore parity for his side as he scored the seventeenth of the campaign.

KCB frantically searched for a winning goal but despite their best efforts, the AFC Leopards defense stood firm and ensure both teams got a point from the game.
