KCB edged out Wazito 2-0 in this Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) match at Kasarani on Friday.

With that win the bankers to extend their unbeaten record against Wazito to climb up to position five.

Derrick Otanga produced an excellent performance against his former club as he opened his campaign by scoring both goals. Wazito ‘s poor start to the season continued and the remain in the bottom two with two points, with this being their worst start to the premier league after six games in their four seasons in the top flight.

KCB went ahead in the fifth minute after a nice cutback found Derrick Otanga in acres of space in the penalty area and he unleashed a fierce drive into the net. The striker was involved in another attack minutes later after he delivered a cross for James Mazembe but the fleet footed winger’s effort went off target. Wazito slowly started making inroads into KCB’s territory and Rooney Onyango delivered a pinpoint cross to Cliff Nyakeya but his effort was too weak to trouble Gabriel Andika in goal. As the halftime break edged closer, Wazito were lucky not to get a man sent off after Otanga stole the ball from captain Johnstone Omurwa but just as he bore down towards goal and with only the keeper to beat, he was fouled and not given his marching orders, much to the frustration of the KCB players.

KCB thought they had doubled their lead a minute into the second half after Mazembe’s through pass found Otanga who finished emphatically only to be flagged off for offside.

He would not be denied a second because seven minutes later, Amos Asembeka lost possession and a quick breakaway saw Henry Onyango one on one with keeper but he unselfishly squared the ball to Otanga for his second of the game.

Wazito then started dominating possession in KCB’s half as they sought to wrestle back control of the match but that only left them exposed to counter attacks and Mazembe nearly scored the third of the game after Micheal Oduor set him up but the winger flashed his effort wide when it looked easier to score.

Derrick Otanga nearly got his hattrick after another attack but his effort was well saved by goalkeeper Bashir Sekagya.

Wazito then had a chance to half the deficit after another pinpoint cross by Rooney found Vincent Oburu at the far post but he did not connect well with the ball.

With five minutes to go, Musa Masika was set up by Eric Otieno but he flashed his effort narrowly wide. Wazito tried their best to get atleast a goal but KCB were able to hold on to the lead for their third consecutive win.
