You snooze you lose. That will be the unfolding situation should second placed KCB register anything but a win when they take on Nzoia Sugar in their Wednesday Betking Premier League match at Ruaraka Grounds.
The country’s football governing body had set 30th June as the date that will determine who will represent the country in next seasons prestigious continental CAF Champions League tournament.
Heading into the final round of fixtures before the deadline elapses, it is only Tusker, who are the current log leaders on 44 points, and KCB who have the chance to grab that ticket.
However, for KCB to progress, they will need the footballing gods to smile upon them. Sitting one point behind Tusker, the Bankers will first need to win their task at hand against Nzoia and hope that a resurgent Ulinzi Stars, who have not lost a game since football’s resumption, can deny Tusker from getting a win in Nakuru.
Going into the match, though, KCB will have to be cautious as Nzoia stunned them 2-1 in the first leg encounter. In the premature 2020 season, the millers forced a barren stalemate between the two sides, meaning that they have only managed one point out of the last available six.
But a chance for revenge with the champions league spot on the line could not have come at a better time for Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno led team.It is however easier said than done.
Nzoia come into the match on a three game losing streak and are without a win in their last seven games. Loose further and they drop further down the table and nearer to the dreaded relegation places, a situation they would want to avoid, meaning they are likely to put up a fierce fight to ensure their safety in the top flight.
Still, KCB would know the herculean task that awaits and would not want to lose on the prize simply because they failed to take care of their own business. The match kicks off at 1515EAT.
